Enough Abuse Maine
In 2017, MassKids collaborated with community leaders in York, including York Hospital Emergency Department physician Jeanine Ward, MD, York Police and School Officer Jamie Robie, and York resident and child advocate Kara DioGuardi to support the development of a York County coalition to address child sexual abuse prevention. Through their leadership and with support from York Hospital and York Police Department, meetings of concerned citizens and organizations were convened in 2017 to explore interest in organizing a formal initiative.
These meetings included representatives from Kids Free to Grow – the Child Abuse Prevention Council serving York County; the Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault (MECASA), Sexual Assault Resources of Southern Maine (SARSSM), the York County Children’s Advocacy Center based in Sanford, and other interested groups. Over 60 individuals have either participated in these meetings or expressed their support for the effort.
Supported by local contributors, the Enough Abuse initiative was formally launched in the fall of 2017. MassKids provided the training, technical assistance, and a rich array of prevention resources. In January 2018, York Hospital Board of Trustees voted to have the hospital serve as the fiscal agent for the initiative. Individuals who wish to make tax-deductible donations should make checks out to York Hospital/Enough Abuse Maine.
Today, there are 12 certified Enough Abuse Campaign trainers available to lead workshops and trainings across the county.
