One in 5 children are estimated to be victims of in-person or online child sexual abuse, grooming, sextortion or deepfake sexual imagery. It’s especially difficult for busy parents and the public to keep up with the growing threats to children on so many online platforms. Two-thirds of parents, in fact, don’t feel knowledgeable or confident enough to talk to their children about vital online safety concerns. To support them, Enough Abuse is launching a three-part campaign to educate parents and the public on how to challenge those with unfettered online access into our homes and our children’s lives. Learn how prevent online child sexual abuse and exploitation, including how to communicate crucial messages to children that will protect them and keep them safe from grooming, sextortion, deepfakes, and online exploitation.

Enough! Preventing Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation, free training

1.“Enough! Preventing Online Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitation”

This is a FREE one-hour training that will discuss the various threats children and youth are being exposed to every day they use social media, gaming apps or group chats.

Three training options are scheduled for 7-8 PM EST on Zoom. Choose one and click to register below! Download and share this flyer to promote these trainings with your family, friends and community.

The registration links can also be found on our Upcoming Trainings page.

Participants will learn how grooming works, how to recognize signs in their children that might suggest exploitation is occurring, how to respond appropriately and where to report concerns. Information will also be shared about emerging dangers, such as AI and its use to create sexual deepfakes. We are eager to get feedback from parents about this new training to prevent online child sexual abuse and exploitation, as we prepare for a national launch that will reach parents, school and youth-serving organization staff across the country.

2. The Growing Threat of Violent Online Networks Targeting Children

Violent Online Extremist groups are committing unthinkable acts of violence against children and, sadly, trapping them in turn, to commit violent acts against themselves, siblings, other youth and even family pets. Using online grooming, manipulation, threats and blackmail, these groups and individuals, according to the F.B.I. have been responsible for coercing as many as three dozen youth to take their own lives. To prevent more tragedies, ENOUGH ABUSE has produced a compelling 12-minute public awareness video to educate youth, parents and the public about this insidious threat, how to challenge these online evildoers, and prevent more children from becoming victims. Read and share more information in this blog post.

3. Sextortion Prevention: Training by a Youth Survivor for Youth and Parents

teen survivor of sextortion provides training to parents

Enough Abuse is collaborating with a teen survivor of online sextortion to produce the first ever prevention training on this topic developed by a youth survivor to be delivered by her and other trained youth. This compelling and practical training will include: signs that a friend may be being abused; red flags that show a person online may be attempting to exploit them; safety tips for teens to keep safe online and report abuse. This training will be piloted this fall with a diverse group of high school students who will provide critical feedback as the resource is prepared for broader distribution to other schools and youth-serving organizations later this fall.

A version for parents is also in development. This unique approach to educating parents by youth will reinforce the urgency of the problem and support opportunities for parents and youth to have courageous conversations on how to counter this major safety threat. More updates to follow soon…
